The Yarg's Movie Reviews - The Boat That Rocked

(aka Pirate Radio to us United Staters) 2009

by: The Yarg

Finally seeing this film, i was astonished at the complexity of the story, the wonderfully eccentric cast of characters, this was a terrific ensemble movie, with a dozen main characters, all of which are easily likeable in their own strange way, from The Count, to Thick Kevin. You just fall in love with the cast.  Starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Tom Sturridge, and Rhys Ifans. The Boat That Rocked takes you on a tour of Pirate Radio stations in the 1960's. Stations that played Rock and Roll all day every day, kinda illegally, without breaking any laws, so the government of Britain, decides to make up a few laws to keep them off the air, of which is painfully impossible for them.

On the DJ's side of it, Young Carl, played by Tom Sturridge, gets sent to The Radio Rock boat to delve into the world of Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll. befriended almost immediately by the 8 DJ's on board, his life goes on a crazy ride as he learns the ins and outs of life, falling in love with the girl, the girl fucks someone else, being crushed by the girl fucking someone else, then later on finding out who his father is, then getting the said girl in the end.

This film albeit a comedy, also has its fair share of drama, however taken lightly, it takes you on a rollercoaster ride of laughter, some sadness, Nick Frost naked, (which id rather not want to see again, even though i probably will) and don't forget about Midnight Mark...

This movie, with its wonderful ensemble cast, amazing music, and terrific storyline, has you never wanting it to end, but like all great films, it does, and your there. on the edge of your seat, wanting more...

For me, this is definitely worth buying, and has countless views in the future for me.

The Boat That Rocked, aka Pirate Radio, gets a astonishing 10 out of 10.
