So I finally caught up and watched this film, just about 3 hours before writing this review, I let it digest a bit before I finally reviewed it... Lets just say, ehhhh... Film starts off rather well, with horror legend Robert Englund, as well as semi newcomer Joshua Leonard, if you don't know who Robert Englund is, then time to fuck off, haha. As for Joshua Leonard, you would know him from The Blair Witch Project, where he played... Josh!!!! So on to the film, first off, I saw a extended trailer for this film about 3 years ago at Horrorfind Weekend, it just continuously kept playing on a reel of trailers on this massive TV off to the side of our Darkstone Entertainment table. Saw the trailer, thought it looked rather gory, and anticipated watching it. Now that 3 years later, I have watched it, I have my opinion of it Gore was fucking great and plentiful, ridiculous at times, but over the top, bloody good fun, just the way I like it. I'm a total Gore Whore, so the gorier the better. The acting was, well over the top of course, it being a slasher horror film. Taking place in Louisiana during Mardi Gras, we come across Ben, and a group of his friends, of which the latter is thoroughly enjoying the naked ladies, Ben is overcoming his anger of his Middle, High, and College Sweetheart, who just dumped him after 8 years. So not interested in the naked girls, he decides he wants to go on a haunted swamp tour. Out on the tour, they hear the horrid tale of one Victor Crowley, a hideously deformed man who is said that his spirit haunts the swamp. Taking his revenge on whomever enters his domain. Of which this tour group, just crashlanded their boat in his back yard, literally. So he goes on a killing spree, of which the deaths are fucking gruesome, and entertaining. However, the ending of this film, was just blahhhhh. I was expecting it to wow me, and I wanted it to wow me, but the ending let me down, the gore was great, the ladies were attractive, the cameos were awesome. The acting was overthetop great. But the fucking ending... tsk tsk, shame on you.
I give Hatchet, a 7 out of 10. |
